Upper Normandy (Haute-Normandie)
Upper Normandy (Haute-Normandie) is characterized by scenic beaches and charming medieval cities. Rouen is the most visited town in the region and boasts a colorful and complex history. Sitting along the River Seine, the city now benefits from centuries of beautiful architecture and historic attractions. Its stunning cathedral and impressive Musee des Beaux-Arts rank among Rouen’s best sites for tourists. The streets of Rouen’s old town are filled with beautiful half timber buildings, each lovingly restored and extremely photogenic.
Le Havre is another popular tourist city in Upper Normandy. It’s proximity to England makes it a common weekend destination for the British. The city is home to a lovely 16th century cathedral, several art museums and a lively nightlife. Its Casino le Havre is a popular nightspot and offers numerous slot machines along with few table games. In fact, the entire Upper Normandy coastline is dotted with modern casinos ranging from small to large. The most notable are located in Le Havre, Dieppe and Forges les Eaux. All casinos require visitors to be at least 18 years old with a valid ID. While most venues permit casual attire, opening hours vary.
